Located on the southern part of the Temple Mount is the Jerusalem Archaeological Park. There’s lots of neat stuff here. Check out www.archpark.org.il for more information. It’s an excellent website, well laid out, and full of interesting information for each of the relevant time periods for this area of the globe.

It was on the south steps of the temple mount that Peter spoke on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. Three thousand people were saved and baptized that day.
I’ve no idea what this grate was for. If I didn’t know better, it looked like a sewer drain.

So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about 3,000 people were added to them. (Acts 2:41)Three thousand people is a lot! I wonder how much time that took to baptize them all. And how might that have been done, you ask? The temple area had quite a few Miqvehs. They are baptismal pools. Most likely these were the pools used by the disciples when they baptized 3,000 people on the Day of Pentecost
In this miqveh, the stairs leading to the water were separated down the middle. The person would enter the water on one set of stairs as “unclean” and would exit the water on the other set of stairs. |

Part of the City of David. It lies just south of the Temple in Jerusalem.David was 30 years old when he began his reign; he reigned 40 years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned 33 years over all Israel and Judah.
The king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. The Jebusites had said to David: “You will never get in here. Even the blind and lame can repel you,” thinking, “David can’t get in here.” Yet David did capture the stronghold of Zion, the city of David. He said that day, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites must go through the water shaft to reach the lame and the blind who are despised by David.” For this reason it is said, “The blind and the lame will never enter the house.” David took up residence in the stronghold, which he named the City of David. He built it up all the way around from the supporting terraces inward. David became more and more powerful, and the LORD God of Hosts was with him. (2Sa 5:4-10 HCSB) |
